Course Descriptions:

Intro to Dynamo for Revit:

Dynamo is a visual programming tool that allows users to automate Revit repetitive tasks and create complex workflows. The session covers the basics of Dynamo for everyday Revit users by walking through scripts that automate project setup. These introduction scripts are intended to teach attendees how to use the Dynamo application, foundation and structure of Dynamo scripts, process of building scripts, and common Dynamo nodes and packages.

Automate Revit Documentation with Be.Smart:

This session will show how to simplify and automate the creation of accurate documentation from Revit models. Smart Documentation is a Revit add-on that is a powerful and flexible tool that can help generate documents and drawings. It can create automatically tagged and dimensioned project views and assembly views in bulk and place everything on sheets. It can also sort and number Revit elements any way you need, eliminating the need for manual data entry and reducing mistakes. Smart Documentation is designed to overcome limitations in native Revit functionality so that designers can complete deliverables in the shortest time possible.

Improve Your Productivity with Bluebeam Revu:

In this course we’ll discuss the options for improving your productivity when leveraging Bluebeam Revu. You’ll learn valuable short cuts and tips that can assist in creating or editing markups. We’ll also dig into the interface and how you can customize it better suit your workflow needs. As part of the interface conversation, we dig deep into the Tool Chest. You’ll learn how to create your own tool sets, add your specific tools to them and then how to share those tools with the rest of the staff for repeatable and consistent use throughout the company.

Why We Draw:

Revit, and BIM in general, is one of the most powerful tools that architects have in their toolbox. As our profession progressively gets more complicated, and time becomes a dwindling resource, efficiency becomes paramount. This course will focus on when, how, and why architects should use Revit as part of their design process. Previous projects will be used to showcase examples of when Revit can be most beneficial to the process or a possible hinderance to the design process.

In this course, we will explore practical BIM applications, specifically in modeling and documenting vertical construction. Bring your questions on how to make AutoCAD do the things you wish it could do.

Speakers:

Troy Gates: Troy Gates has worked in the AECO industry for more than 25 years. He is the Director of Innovation at U.S. CAD, an AECO technology and services company, and has been involved in BIM, VDC, and technology implementation for AECO companies throughout his career. Mr. Gates has worked with the AECO community of innovators to advance BIM, VDC, and technologies from design thru construction to operation. Mr. Gates enjoys the challenge of solving industry challenges through a technology lens.

Ken Phelps: Ken Phelps is a Sr. Product Specialist at U.S. CAD focused exclusively on Bluebeam products and a Bluebeam Certified Instructor and Consultant. He has been part of the CAD ecosystem since the early 90’s either as a designer or helping customers implement design and design review technology.

Aaron Shimizu: Aaron Shimizu is a Revit Certified User and Licensed Architect. With nearly two decades of experience in the industry, Aaron has produced hundreds of BIM projects ranging from TI’s to ground-up construction.

Chris Hong: Chris Hong, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, oversees projects ranging from commercial, institutional facilities, and healthcare architecture with a focus on project innovation, rebranding, sustainability, and integrated collaboration. Born and raised in Honolulu, Mr. Hong is a Principal at Whisper Architects after spending time as an Associate at Group 70 International and NBBJ Seattle. He is a resolute mentor with 18+ years of volunteer service to his profession. Mr. Hong currently serves as Board of Trustees for the Historic Hawaii Foundation and is a Past President of American Institute of Architects, Honolulu Chapter, the Hawaii Architecture Foundation, and serves on Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s Dean’s Leadership Council. He is a licensed architect in Hawaii and Washington and received a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Cal Poly San Louis Obispo.

Kyle Nishoka: Kyle Nishioka is a licensed professional engineer in Hawaii. His path through land development, utility installation, and roadway design start in the days of AutoCAD R14. He dipped his toes into a little bit of Eagle Point, then fully immersed himself in Civil 3D and the AEC Collection. He has trained drafters and engineers at Mitsunaga & Associates for over 20 years and presented at CAD / BIM Camps since 2011.

Dawn Hata: Dawn Hata is a Structural Senior Designer at Coffman Engineers and holds the Office CAD Coordinator role for the company’s Pacific Region which includes Hawaii and Guam. She has more than 25 years of AutoCAD and Revit experience with her current work focusing on Structural drafting and managing projects; identifying and building solutions for her company’s training needs; and working with fellow AutoCAD and Revit users to resolve software and workflow issues.

Jill Conlin: Jill Conlin has more than 13 years of experience in program management, BIM, STEM education, and manufacturing training. Her background includes building STEM programs at three schools, working in biopharma alongside engineers as a BIM Coordinator and Training Manager, and developing and implementing training programs for manufacturing staff engaged in six different trades.

Brian Perez: Brian Perez has more than 5 years of experience in the AEC industry, primarily in Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing system design and fabrication. He specializes in consulting, training, and implementation of complex software programs and processes. His expertise extends to project management and collaboration with architects, engineers, and other consultants in the design and construction phases.
